Mimon Stud to be auctioned off in April

According to Aktualne.cz, the Mimon Stud is to be offered for sale by auction in April, with a minimum price of CzK 13 million. The stud was set up in the mid 1960s, and was bought by the present owner, Dr Zbynek Pulec, in the mid 1990s. Dr Pulec is known to have wanted to sell the stud for the last couple of years. He explains that he is now 65 years old, has been subsidizing the loss-making operation for almost 20 years, and that is enough. He and a creditor have agreed that the stud and the training facilities will be auctioned off.

I am sad to say that it is unlikely we will see racing at Mimon again. The two-day midsummer mixed meetings were quite a local festival, with large crowds and a festive atmosphere, and there was a memorable view of the mountains off to the left from the grandstand.

It also seems that the horses trained at the course are to move out. Trainer Arslangirej Savujev moved there a couple of years ago, and last year a number of very high-class horses owned by Ramzan Kadyrov, president of Chechnya, were sent to him at Mimon for quarantine and training. Some of these horses are currently in Dubai.

It is hard to see the Mimon stud being bought as a going concern, but there are quite extensive lands suitable for training or for recreational activities. Mimon is an attractive location adjacent to the Ralsko former Soviet military base, only about 80 km north of Prague.
