Prague Velka Chuchle racecourse under water

Prague Velka Chuchle racecourse is now completely under water, and the horses that are trained at the racecourse have been moved out. See the latest pictures from the racecourse webcam.  http://www.dostihyjc.cz/mapy.php?ID=1.

The water in the Vltava, which runs parallel to the far side of the racecourse, has now peaked, so it is hoped that the level of water on the course will not increase. The present situation is far from as bad as in August 2002, but it is bad enough. There will be a major cleaning up job to do when the water recedes, and it is hard to see how the Czech Derby can be run at the course on June 23rd.

The area of Velka Chuchle racecourse is available for horse racing, and is not covered with residences, because it is in the flood plain.

The race meetings next Saturday at Pardubice and at Slusovice are not under threat.
