Velka Chuchle: what is the state of the race track less than 3 weeks before racing is due to resume?

When the whole of Prague Velka Chuchle racecourse was under water at the beginning of June, the racecourse management set itself the task of being ready for racing on Czech St Leger day at the end of August.  Much hard work has gone into cleaning up. It was announced a few weeks ago that the St Leger meeting would be put back until Sunday, September 1st. The structures at the racecourse are OK, and the very warm recent weather will have dried them out well. The main concern now is with the turf on the racetrack. In places it was under water for a couple of weeks and the grass was killed off. Much reseeding was done, but the very hot, dry  weather conditions have not been ideal for grass growth in the period after midsummer. The most worrisome part of the course is the beginning of the back straight, between the 1800 metre mark and the 1600 metre mark, which is the lowest-lying part.

In most places it is not too bad, though there are plenty of rather threadbare patches, and in one small part of the lowest-lying section, where there is a water channel, the situation is not good. Hopefully it can be adequately patched up and the regular Sunday afternoon meetings, from September 1st until the end of October (with the exception of Velka Pardubicka day - Sunday Ocotber 13th), can all be run safely.
