Jiří Charvát is elected president of the Czech Jockey Club

Following the recent resignation of Aleša Jakub from the position of president of the Czech Jockey Club, Jiří Charvát was elected to the post at a meeting held at Prague Velka Chuchle racecourse on April 14th.

Jiří Charvát is a successful businessman from the generation of bright young well-qualified entrepreneurs who emerged in the 1990s. He has been a very ambitious racehorse owner, and won the Velka Pardubicka with Decent Fellow. So far, his many purchases for the Derby have either turned out to be milers, or have been unlucky (Chardonnay Tcheque), or were not good enough.

Dostihový svět is happy that Dr. Jiří Charvát has taken on this position. We hope he will be able to make enough time to do the key tasks of the president himself, and will be able to delegate and distribute other tasks that have in recent years been excessively concentrated round the person of the president.

Aleša Jakub had to resign as president after the Association of Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners failed to elect him to their board. He had been coopted to their board three months ago in order to be eligible to be a candidate for the post of president. I am told that Aleša Jakub worked hard and effectively during his brief period as president. He contributed to the fact that the racing season began on time, despite the long dispute between the Jockey Club and the organizers of racing at the racecourses.
