3rd VP qualification race on Saturday – Josef Váňa senior rides Tiumen

Pardubice racecourse offers nine races on Saturday, August 23rd, first race at 1 p.m. All eyes will be on the  eighth race, the Chládek a Tintěra, Pardubice, a.s. 3rd qualification race for the Velka Pardubicka, KCs 300 000, 5 800 metres. This race is held 7 weeks before the VP, a good time give the main contenders a serious trial run. There are 17 runners declared, and the Czech media will be focusing on 13-year-old triple VP winner Tiumen, to be ridden by eight-time VP winning 61-year-old jockey Josef Váňa senior.

There will be plenty of interest in the other two Váňa-trained horses in the race. Stable jockey Josef Váňa jnr has interestingly chosen Soros. Soros is the class horse in the field, but his best runs have been over classical steeplechase courses and over shorter distances. Silver Regent, in the same ownership as Tiumen, will be ridden by Jan Korpas. Nikas, a well-beaten 2nd in VP 2013 and winner of the first qualification race in May this year will probably start as favourite. Kasim, 4th in VP 2013, Zulejka, Moula, Cherwick and Belmont will also have their supporters.

On Sunday, there will be a day of moderate mixed racing at picturesque Netolice. The favourites for the Category II Velká Netolická, will be consistent 13-y-o Tomis and Handsome Jack. Both will have made a very long journey from northeast Moravia to South Bohemia for this race.
