Trip to Rhodos entered for the Melbourne Cup

124 horses are entered for the Melbourne Cup, which will be run on November 1st. 31 of the entries are from outside Australasia. For the first time ever, a Czech-owned and Czech-trained horse has been entered for this race, which is a handicap over two miles, for total prize money of six thousand two hundred Australian dollars. There is prize money for the first ten past the post.

7-y-o gelding Trip to Rhodos has for several seasons been the best Czech-trained stayer, and he has won good races here, at Bratislava, at Milan, and in Germany, and has been placed in a number of black-type races in France. The Melbourne Cup distance of two miles is ideal for Trip to Rhodos.  http://www.dostihyjc.cz/kun.php?ID=45060.

Trip to Rhodos is owned Jiří Charvát, president of the Jockey Club of the Czech Republic, and is trained by Pavel Tůma at Dvorce, in north Moravia.

It is a significant moment for Czech racing to have an owner sporting enough with a horse good enough to enter in the Melbourne Cup.
