Sir Sun wins the Czech TwoThousand Guineas

Eleven colts lined up for the 96th running of the Pražská plynárenská Czech Two Thousand Guineas. Ultimate Fight and Darien set off at a crazy pace, and burned out before they reached the finishing straight.

Meanwhile, Jiří Chaloupka had Sir Sun tucked in at the back of the field. They were still in last place for the first part of the straight, but they soon started making good progress up the middle of the track, picking off tiring horses one-by-one. In the end, they won quite comfortably by three quarters of a length from Noble Cliffs and Zock.

French-bred Sir Sun (Power (GB) – Summer Stage (GB) (In The Wings (GB)), is owned by Lokotrans, and was trainer Luboš Urbánek’s first classic winner. This was Jiří Chaloupka’s 8th classic win, and it called to mind his waiting rides when he won the Czech Derby and the Czech St Leger on Cheeky Chappie in 2014, on each occasion by a neck. However, this time the margin was bigger.
