Myska wins the jumps jockeys' championship at snowy Pardubice

The last Saturday of the Czech horseracing season was accompanied by a swirling wind and by rain that turned to quite heavy snow. Racegoers were pleased to have penty of shelter and mulled wine, but horses and jockeys had a chilly afternoon. The main race, the Orphee des Blins Final Steeplechase, was won by the promising 5-y-o Charme Look, but the most impressive performance of the afternoon was by 5-y-o Skarabeus in the Cat IV hurdles race. Skarabeus, owned by DS Pegas and trained by Greg Wroblewski, has won several good races on the flat, but was having his first race over hurdles. He easily beat some much more experienced hurdlers, and he looked capable of winning at a much higher level than this.

In the jumps jockeys' championship, Marcel Novak rode one winner and Jaroslav Myska won two. Myska took the jockeys' championship by virtue of finishing 2nd in the final race on Love the Win, which hit the last fence hard. This left Myska one ahead on wins, level on 2nd places, but ahead on 3rd places, so Marcel Novak cannot now win the title even if he wins the final jumps race of the season, at Prague Velka Chuchle, on Sunday, October 28th.
