Greece's best-ever jockey will ride in Prague on Saturday

The appearance of Panagiotis Dimitsanis, Greek champion jockey in 18 of the last 20 years, at the European Jockeys Cup meeting at Prague Velká Chuchle on Saturday, September 2nd, will be followed with plenty of interest. However, he does not have a good ride in any of the three major races that he will be riding in. He also has three rides in the minor races, where it is harder to tell which horses have a chance. Let us hope he will get a good start on Finále, in the first race, and will go on to surprise me with some success later in the afternoon. In any case, his appearance in Prague will give the Greek community in the Czech Republic a chance to support their man, and perhaps to cheer him to unexpected success, as they did with the Greek women’s basketball team earlier this summer. The Greek girls unexpectedly qualified for the world championship by finishing 4th in Prague.

First Race, 14.35 - rides Finále. This is a handicap race, and anything can win it. Finále performed quite well in a recent race at Karlovy Vary, and if all goes well she has a chance.

Third race, 15.45 - rides Facts and Figures. This is a top race, over 1800 metres. Facts and Figures will be outclassed, even with the top Greek jockey on his back.

Fourth race, 16.20 - rides Hello Hobby. This is the EJC Million, over 1400 metres, the big race of the day. Hello Hobby is a quite good horse that has won 5 races, but he will be doing very well to finish in the top 5 against our top horses.

Seventh race, 18.00 - rides Last Opera Song. This is only a moderate Category IV race, but there are 14 other runners, and Last Opera Song does not seem to have much of a chance.

Eighth race, 18.30 - rides Kerabush. This is a top race over 2 400 metres, and Kerabush will be out of his class. Likely to be well beaten.

Ninth race, 19.00 - rides Divoká Tigřice. This is a moderate Category IV race. Divoká Tigřice has only run four times before, but she has not shown much form yet.

Conclusion: In the three major races where he is riding, Panagiotis Dimitsanis has horses that have little chance of finishing at the front of the field. His other three rides, in minor races, also do not appear to be on horses with a particular chance. Finále, in the first race, might get a place in the first three, but any success on any of these six horses will be a good outcome.
