Legendary Gordon Lord Byron will run in Prague on EJC day

Irish trainer Tom Hogan says that it is all systems go for Gordon Lord Byron to run on EJC day at Prague Velká Chuchle on Saturday, September 22nd. The horse will fly out on the Friday and fly back after racing on Saturday evening.

It is understand that one of the owners, Dr Cyrus Poonawalla, has factories in the Czech Republic.  

The life story of 10-year-old Irish-trained Gordon Lord Byron is like the script for an American film, and indeed a full-length film has been made, under the title Against the Odds – Racing with Gordon Lord Byron. Bought for just EUR 2 000, he suffered a major injury in his first race, and he might have been put down at that point. However, trainer Tom Hogan managed to get him back to fitness, and Gordon Lord Byron went on to travel the world. He has run in big sprints at many of the world’s famous racecourses, winning the group 1 Betfred Sprint Cup, the Prix de la Foret, and also the George Ryder Stakes in Australia. He has also run in Dubai and Hongkong. He has won 16 of his 86 races, and more than EUR 2 000 000 in prizemoney.

 

Kincsem, the Hungarian wonder horse from the 1870s, will continue to be the most famous horse ever to have run in Prague (where she won three of her 54 unbeaten races), but the presence of Gordon Lord Byron in the main race, The Leram EJC Million, on Saturday September 22nd, will make EJC day at Prague Velká Chuchle a memorable occasion.
