The Czech racing season is under way

The Czech horseracing season opened on a Monday afternoon at Most racecourse on May 18th. It was a late start, to the season, of course, but congratulations to everybody who ensured that racing, behind closed doors, took place at the first possible opportunity, on the day when the state of emergency in the Czech Republic was lifted.

The main race on the card was the Rudolf Deyl Memorial, 3-y-o fillies, 1400 metres. The race was won comfortably by the favourite, Barthesa, owned by Statek Blata Český ráj, trained by Helena Vocásková, and ridden by Tomáš Lukášek.

Helena Vocásková’s stable has been very successful, winning titles on the flat and also over fences in the last three years. She clearly intends win everything again this year, and had three winners in the course of the afternoon.

Tomáš Lukášek has in recent years spent the winters in Qatar, with impressive success, and the summers mainly in Poland, where he is a leading jockey. Tomáš started the Czech season with four winners at Most. Unfortunately, behind closed doors.
