Simply Ozzy wins the Czech Two Thousand Guineas

The Czech Two Thousand Guineas (93rd running of the Rabbit CZ Velká Jarní Cena) was run at Prague Velka Chuchle on May 11th, and was won by Irish-bred Simply Ozzy, owned by Leram, trained by Vaclav Luka, jnr, and ridden by Jiří Chaloupka. In a fast-run race, Simply Ozzy was with the backmarkers coming into the finishing straight, and was brought with a late run. He is not yet entered for the Czech Derby, and his owner and trainer have not yet announced where he will run next.

Simply Ozzy is by Aussie Rules(USA), out of Stroppy(IRE) (Xaar(GB)). His preparation for the race was non-standard - he ran without much success at Chantilly in January and again in February, and at Longchamp in April. Last year’s Czech Two Thousand Guineas winner, Talar, also trained by Vaclav Luka, likewise ran his preparatory races in France, beginning in February. No doubt, other trainers will in future take their inexperienced Guineas horses to get a race in France well before the Czech racing season begins in April.
