Strömsholm: Vovčenko wins the main races, Al Bustan 2nd in the Swedish Grand National (+ video)
Marcus Aurelius, trained by Stanislav Popelka and ridden by Lukáš Sloup, won the Familjen Perssons Minneslöpning (3500 metres, KCz 80000) at Strömsholm, Sweden on Saturday, a race which the horse had also won in 2015. Catch the Cash, trained by Radim Bodlák, was a non-runner in this race. This last race of the top day’s racing over fences in Sweden in 2016 was the biggest success for the Czech raiders in terms of winning, but there had already been a very solid performance by Al Bustan in the Swedish Grand National.
Czech-born trainer Pavel Vovčenko was the star of the afternoon, as his horses won both of the big races. The 39E Easyfix Svenskt Champion Hurdle (SEK 200000) was won by Falconettei, and the Svenskt Grand National (SEK 280 000) was dominated by Kazzio, winner of the Gran Premio at Merano in 2015, Both horses were ridden by Cevin Chan.
Al Bustan and Lukáš Sloup took 2nd place in the Grand National. For trainer Popelka and owner Lokotrans, this kept up the good work done last year, when Hawa Bali took second place in this race.
