New manager sought for Most racecourse

The post of manager of Most racecourse has been advertised on website of the Jockey Club of the Czech Republic http://www.dostihyjc.cz/zpravy.php.

The closing date for applications is March 15th, and the appointed manager is to take up her or his duties in April 2017.

Last summer, Most racecourse was purchased by a company belonging to president of the Jockey Club, Dr Jiří Charvát. Most racecourse is located about 80 km northwest of Prague, not very far from the German border. The course was opened twenty years ago on a reclaimed open-cast mine site. It is a curious place. The former lunar landscape is rapidly being replaced by greenery, and the course, with its views over the panel flats of Most, is becoming strangely attractive.

Sadly, the course was poorly designed for horseracing, and we are hoping that the new owner will want to invest in redesigning it. Ideally, the horses would run left-handed and finish uphill. Alternatively, or in addition, the straight 1 200-metre course would be brought back into operation. No races have been run on it for about 10 years.

The purchase of Most racecourse by Jiří Charvát last year was widely considered the most notable event of the Czech horseracing year. There will be considerable interest in the appointment of the racecourse manager, and in the plans for developing the racecourse area.

Race days at Most are planned for May 13th (Saturday), May 28th (Sunday), July 21st (Friday – PMU raceday), August 26th (Saturday, Velká Mostecká steeplechase) October 14th (Saturday – Winter Favourite Stakes for 2-y-os) October 29th (Sunday) and November 11th (Sunday). This is a greater number of racedays than in recent years at Most. The three days in October and November are to be welcomed.
