Good racing at Most and at Velká Chuchle this weekend

After the excitement of a fine race in the mud for the Velka Pardubicka last Sunday, the coming weekend offers some more good racing.

Most racecourse, taken over last year by the president of the Czech Jockey Club’s Charvát Group, offers three more meetings this year, on Saturday, October 14th, on Sunday October 29th and on Saturday, November 11th. Plenty of horses need more races when the temperatures are lower and the ground is softer. We humans should dress warmly, as Most racecourse, built on the recultivated Velebudice slag heap, is very likely to be chilly. There are two listed races this Saturday, the Winter Favourite Stakes, for 2-y-os, over 1600 metres, and the St Wenceslas Stakes, over 1200 metres, for 3-y-o+.

Prague Velká Chuchle racecourse is as usual in a hurry to close down for the winter, and offers only two more Sunday afternoon meetings this year. On Sunday, October 15th, the main event is the 3rd Agrofert Velká  Národní Steeplchase, for the Josef Váňa Cup, which has prizemoney of CzK 1 000 000! This is a classical steeplechase, and it has attracted a good field. We will be looking forward to the first appearance in the Czech Republic of Capferret. This horse, trained by Štěpánka Mysková, won a Listed steeplechase at Auteuil, and also two other good races, at Auteuil and at Compiègne, earlier this year.

The final meeting of the year at Prague Velká Chuchle is on Sunday, October 22nd, when the main event will be the President of the Republic Stakes, over 3 200 metres.

There is plenty of shelter at Prague Velká Chuchle. At Most, there is plenty of cover, but it is mainly under canvas, and a warm winter coat will be a comfort.

Please note that, in October, the race meetings begin earlier. The first race at Most this Saturday is at 12.30, and on Sunday in Prague the first race is a 1 p.m.
