The Czech Racing Calendar for 2022 has been published

The following notice is posted in Czech language on the website of the Jockey Club of the Czech Republic Jockey Club (dostihyjc.cz)

The Racing Calendar for the 2022 season was approved at a meeting of the Council of the Jockey Club of the Czech Republic on September 21st. Terminova_listina_2022.pdf (dostihyjc.cz) Horseracing has not been alone in facing up to the restrictions imposed for almost two years by Covid-19, which has impacted the business situation of each of the racecourses and organisers of horseracing. Nevertheless, the Racing Calendar contains as many race days as in 2019, i.e. the last year before the Covid-19 epidemic broke out.

As in 2019, the racing calendar contains 52 race days. On the basis of the proposals for race days submitted by the racecourses, there was a threat of some clashes. However, it was possible to deal with these potential clashes, in collaboration with the racecourses, for which they deserve our thanks. As in previous years, there will be no cases of race meetings being held at two locations on the same day. There will also be no cases of two Category A racecourses “competing” with each other on the same weekend. That is, race days will be held at two Category A racecourses in the same weekend only when one of the racecourses offers only flat racing, and the other offers only jumps racing.

The racing calendar has also been conceived in such a way that clashes are avoided with race days held abroad in which large numbers of Czech-trained horses and Czech jockeys are expected to participate. For this reason, June 5th and July 17th are unoccupied. These are the dates on which the Turf Gala meeting and the Slovak Derby meeting will be held at Bratislava racecourse. Likewise, the second qualification race for the Velka Pardubicka will be run on June 18th, to avoid a repeat of this year’s clash with a meeting at Merano (Italy). In any event, we will be in contact with the racing authorities and racecourses abroad, with a view to avoiding any clashes in the racing calendar. Due to the lack of riders, clashes in the fixture list on jumps racing days are particularly problematic.

A long-term problem with the racing calendar is the varying frequency of race meetings in different parts of the season. As in previous years, fewer meetings are planned in the summer months (July and August). Summer meetings are financially more demanding and more difficult to organise but, at the same time, it is necessary to provide a sufficient range of races throughout the season. We are therefore still looking for ways to supplement the number of race meetings in the summer months.
