They really take an interest in the work that they are training for. They regularly appear in races for apprentices, and then, quite often, they attract the attention of other trainers and owners than those they do internships with.

Ten o’clock today is the deadline for declaration to run in the races on Czech Derby day (Sunday June 25th). The declarations will be followed with particular interest by trainer Greg Wroblewski. There are only 16 places in the boxes for the Derby, and 18 horses are still entered. In the event that there are more than 16 declared runners, the horses with the lowest handicap rating will be eliminated.

The meeting at Strömsholm on Saturday will be the first venture in Sweden for highly-experienced veteran Czech jockey Dušan Andrés, one of whose claims to fame is that he is the only jockey in modern times to have ridden the winner of both the Czech Derby and the Velka Pardubicka.
Only half a dozen horses have been entered for this year’s Swedish Grand National, which will be run on Saturday at Strömsholm. Last year’s easy winner Kazzio [
The long-awaited first PMU raceday in the Czech Republic took place last Friday. There was a remarkably good crowd by the time of the first race, which was 11.10 a.m. The first five races on the card were covered by PMU. There were good fields. Prague Velká Chuchle racecourse was in good order.
Please note that this weekend’s meeting at Prague Velká Chuchle is on Friday, and the first race is at 11.10 a.m. This is the first of two PMU race meetings in the Czech Republic this year.
Early in May we had chilly nights and mild weather, with some rain, but the final 10 days of the month have been distinctly warm and dry, leading up to big thunderstorms on May 30th. In the last couple of years, in particular, the qualification races for the Velka Pardubicka have been run on a series of very hot days, and on much harder ground than is ideal for long-distance crosscountry steeplechasing.
