Bloodstock Sale and Flat Race Meeting at Pardubice on Friday

The fifth edition of the Central European Thoroughbred Sale will, for the first time in its history, on the same day as the first day of the racing meeting. The unusual situation has been caused by the date collision with Golden Helmet motorcycle event, due to which Velká Pardubická will be run on Saturday and the flat races on Friday. The Friday of October 12 will be a tough day for the organisers and Janda Bloodstock.

According to the odds offered by Betino, the Czech horseracing  monopoly bookmaker, Tiumen is the hot favourite for Saturday's Velka Pardubicka. He is offered at 5:2 (If you stake 2 crowns, you will get 5 crowns back, if he wins). Next in the betting is double qualification race winner Trezor, to be ridden by Liam Treadwell, at 5:1 (i.e. 4/1 in Irish/UK terms). Then come the two Olehla-trained hopefuls, Ronino at 6:1 and Klaus at 7.77:1. There are three 11:1 shots - two-time VP winner Sixteen, Moravian champion Valldemoso, and Vana-trained Belmont. Then come Irish-trained Uncle Junior and British-trained Maljimar, both at 12:1. June qualification race winner Karlsbad is at 16:1. These ten are all major contenders for the race, and I would say that the bookie has got them about right and is being less ungenerous than he usually is - and the prices will probably come in on the day of the race.

Twenty-three declared to run in the Velka, including two from Ireland and one from England

Runners and riders for the Velka Pardubicka have been announced, and three Irish-trained horses have stood their ground. Irish-trained Dr Pat will be ridden by Richie McLernon and Uncle Junior by Emmet Mullins. English-rained Maljimar will be ridden by James Reveley. The Czech runners and riders are more or less as expected. The Josef Vana stable has 5 runners: Tiumen (J. Vana snr), Sixteen (J. Bartos), Belmont (J. Vana jnr), Grilias (P.
