Fourth VP qualification race at Pardubice on Saturday

The last of the four qualification races for the 2014 Velka Pardubicka will be run at Pardubice on Saturday, September 13th. Orphée des Blins, the outstanding winner of the VP in 2012 and 2013, will be expected to win this race easily, even if she is not given a hard race. Jan Faltejsek will be in the saddle.

There are 14 declared runners, including several which have failed to get round in one or more of the earlier qualification races, and others that got round, but well beaten, in one of the qualifiers. Tropic de Brion’s French rider, Kevin Guignon, lost his way in the August qualification race, but will be back again, perhaps hoping that one of the others will set the pace and show him the correct route this time. Tropic de Brion ran well for a long way in the VP in 2013, before tiring and finishing last of the six that completed the course. Another interesting runner is Zarif, which finished a close 2nd behind Trezor in the August qualification race.

There will be a big cheer if Martina Ružíčková gets round on Rubín. If the horse qualifies for the VP, Martina will have an opportunity to ride him on October 12th, and complete the course in that race for the first time, at the 8th attempt.

The first race at Pardubice is at 1 p.m., and there are ten races on the card. There is also a flat race meeting on Sunday, at Prague Velká Chuchle. The first race on Sunday is at 2 p.m., and there are eight races on the card.
