Plenty of racing this weekend

There are two meetings in the Czech Republic on Saturday, plus the re-arranged Slovak Oaks meeting at Bratislava. Bratislava has had the misfortune to have both the Derby meeting and last Sunday’s Oaks meeting called off due to heavy rainstorms flooding the course on the morning of the meeting.

The attendance at Slušovice will suffer from the clash with an attractive afternoon at Bratislava. On the other side of the country, there is a mixed meeting at Most on Saturday. The main event is the Office Depot Jockey Club of the Czech Republic Prize, Category I, 2 000 metres, in which Lysyan will be attempting to repeat his good win at the last meeting at Most.

On Sunday, the Autumn Festival meeting at Prague Velka Chuchle features two races with a good tradition. Luka-trained Donn Halling has not run in the Czech Republic for three years, and his appearance in the 36th running of the Grand Prix of the Czech Turf, 2 400 metres, will be followed with interest. In the 36th running of the Martin Tour Travel Agency Prague Grand Prix, 2011 Czech Two Thousand Guineas winner Chardonney Tcheque also makes a rare appearance in Prague.

These races, both with prize money of CzK 400 000, are intended to provide an opportunity for the best 3-y-os to take on our best older horses, but the younger horses have all side-stepped the mile race. New Attack and Aztek finished 2nd and 3rd in a very tight finish in the Czech St Leger, and are good 3-y-o representatives. However, the older horses may be too strong for them.

Note that all meetings at Prague Velka Chuchle from now until the end of the season will have the first race at 1 p.m. At Slušovice, the first race is at 2 p.m., and at Most racing begins at 1.30 p.m.
