Aldar, winner of the Czech Two Thousand Guineas and the Derby trial at Bratislava is a fairly hot favourite for Sunday’s Czech Derby. The second favourite, Dumnonia, won the Czech One Thousand Guineas and the Slovak One Thousand Guineas, and is the only filly in the field. However, she has never run over a distance more than 1600 metres. Sirius Shine won the main Czech Derby trial, and also one of our top races for 2-y-os last year.
Apart from the last five in the betting, all of them have already shown on the course that they might be good enough to be in contention. Dalewari has disappointed this year, but is thought to have something in reserve. The only foreign runner, Parzival, trained in France, is running here because the Czech Derby is one of the small number of Derbys in which geldings are allowed to run.
It will take a good horse to win the race. Aldar could be that horse, but several others might challenge him.
