Sanok wins the Czech St Leger

On yet another terrible weekend for odds-on favourites, Czech and Slovak Derby winner Touch of Genius failed to win the Czech St Leger at Prague Velká Chuchle on August 30th.  The race was won by Sanok, which led all the way round, from Czech Oaks winner Amga River, with Touch of Genius in 3rd place.

Polish-bred Sanok was having just his 5th race, and his two previous wins were in small races over shorter distances. He was to have run in the Polish Derby, but had a setback. Sanok is owned by Nyžnerov, trained by Greg Wroblewski, and was perfectly ridden by Václav Janáček. Sanok is by Jape(USA), out of Sun Queen(POL) (Don Corleone(GB)).

Sanok has the breeding, the owner and the trainer to run over hurdles and fences. However, his next race is likely to be on European Jockeys’ Cup day, Saturday September 26th, at Prague Velká Chuchle, when one of the races is over 2500 metres.
