Swedish Grand National, with Czech contenders
The Swedish Grand National and the Swedish Champion Hurdle are the main events in the meeting at Strömsholm on June 11th, and the Czech Republic will be well represented.
Trainer Radim Bodlák has Taurito in the Champion Hurdle and Catch the Cash in the Familjen Persson steeplechase. These horses are both Swedish-owned.
Trainer Stanislav Popelka is again represented, after his successful raid last year. Marcus Aurelius will be attempting to repeat his success in the Familjen Persson steeplechase, which he won at Strömsholm last year. Vicody runs in the Champion Hurdle, Thirteen Diamonds in a hurdles race, and Al Bustan in the Grand National.
Kazio, trained by Czech-born German-based Pavel Vovcenko, is likely to be the favourite for the Grand National. Cevin Chan rides. Kazio won the Gran Premio at Merano last year.
Josef Bartoš will be on Czech-bred Moderator, prepared by leading Swedish trainer Dennis Persson, in the Grand National. He will also ride Taurito and Catch the Cash for Radim Bodlák.
Lukáš Sloup, who won the Grand National on Ländler last year, rides the four Popelka-trained horses: Al Bustan in the Grand National, Vicody in the Champion Hurdle, and also Thirteen Diamonds and Marcus Aurelius.
Jindřich Fabris, our top amateur rider, rides Swedish-trained Purpurheart in the Fegentri race.
