A colt catches the eye on Ladies Day
Prague Velká Chuchle racecourse attracted a remarkably large crowd for Ladies Day on June 4th, despite the rainy start to the afternoon. For most of the afternoon, the ladies’ dresses and hats, laughter and looks, were the main feature of the day, but it was a three-year-old colt, Black Canyon, that took the eye of hardened racegoers. He won the 65th running of the Mironet Prize, Category I, 2225 metres, very impressively, and will be a strong favourite for the Czech Derby, which will be run at Prague Velká Chuchle on Sunday, June 25th. Petr Foret took French-bred Black Canyon, by Maduro (GER) out of a Doneraile Court (USA) mare, straight to the front, and showed once again that he knows well how to win from the front. More than 600 metres from home, the horse drew away from the field, and won very comfortably, by four lengths. Black Canyon is owned by Pegas, and is trained by Dalibor Török. His stablemate, Felix, finished strongly to take 2nd place ahead of Aeneas.
Black Canyon is now unbeaten in four races. The other unbeaten horse in the race, Palazzo Corsini, by Galileo, disappointed, finishing in 7th place.
