Polyanta wins the Czech Oaks

After taking second place in each of the first three Czech classics in 2016, owner Jiří Travníček (Pegas) and trainer Dalibor Török went one better in the Czech Oaks at Karlovy Vary on July 23rd. Polyanta was 2nd in the One Thousand Guineas, Noble Cliffs in the Two Thousand Guineas, and Felix in the Derby, and none of them was beaten by more than three quarters of a length.

In the Oaks, the narrow margin of victory was in favour of Polyanta, ridden by Petr Foret. She won by a head after veering a long way off the rail and colliding slightly with second-placed Hessoesse 100 metres from home. It was sporting of Jiří Charvát, owner of Hessoesse not to register a protest. The stewards fined Petr Foret for interference, but decided not to reverse the first two positions.

The video suggested that Polyanta probably did not benefit from the incident, and just about won on merit. Polyanta is by Soldier of Fortune (IRE) out of Peinture Naïve (FR). The dam ran here in Pegas colours, and finished second in the Czech Oaks in 2005.
