Peruán has passed on

Peruán, triple winner of the Velka Pardubicka (1998 – 2000), has passed on at the age of 29.He was very near to being the only horse in the history of the VP to win the race four times in four successive years. He finished second, narrowly beaten by Chalco, in 2001, and there was a reasonable protest against the winner for crossing in the last 200 metres. For many years after his wins, Peruán - trained near Pardubice and living out his retirement there - would lead the parade before the Velka Pardubicka, and he would want to go to the start and race with the other horses, and not just go back to his box.

Peruán was owned by Dr Václav Bruna, was trained by Lenka Horáková, the first female trainer of a VP winner, and was ridden in each of his VP victories by Zdeněk Matysík.
