Two winners at Merano on Saturday were bittersweet news for trainer Greg Wroblewski. It was a third win over hurdles for his talented mare Terapena, but her future racing career will be without Wroblewski.

The summer race day at Pardubice was run on yet another hot day at the east Bohemian racecourse. This time, however, the ground was soft after some substantial rain towards the end of the week, and there were some shallow muddy pools on the ploughed fields, particularly behind the copse.

Josef Bartoš had his 600th career win, on Wutzeline, in the Preis der Stadtwerke Bad Harzburg, at Bad Harzburg in Germany, on July 22^nd.

Race days at Pardubice have had a habit of coinciding with very hot weather in recent years, and last Saturday was no exception. It was a bit testing for us racegoers, tough for the horses, and probably worst of all for our top jockeys. There were nine races on the card. That is a lot of riding when it is well over 30°C in the shade, and there is not a lot of shade out on the racecourse.
