Pain-free steeplechasing trips to Central Europe in September and October

There are nowadays three particularly important steeplechase race meetings in Central Europe in September and October. Each of them is a remarkable event, the highlight of the steeplechasing season in Poland, Italy, and the Czech Republic. EU passport holders can travel very easily to enjoy central European steeplechasing, in which, by the way, Czech-trained horses and Czech jockeys will feature prominently. 

August 2018 newsletter

In preparation for writing the August 2018 newsletter, I jotted down a few ideas on what I might write about. Then, I decided to reread my August newsletters for 2015 to 2017. I was quite disappointed to see that most of my ‘ideas’ mentioned in the first sentence here had, in fact, been discussed in some detail in the August newsletters in each of the last three years!

A conversation with Martin Pecka, manager of Prague Velká Chuchle racecourse

At the end of last year, the family of leading Czech developer and real estate magnate Radovan Vítek bought a majority holding in Turf Holding. Turf Holding is the majority shareholder of Turf Praha a.s., which owns the main part of Prague Velká Chuchle racecourse (the remaining part belongs to the Czech state).

July 2018 newsletter

As usual in Czech racing, the end of June marks the turning point between spring racing and summer racing. The second of the four qualification races for the 2018 Velka Pardubicka was run on June 23rd, and the following day was Czech Derby day.
