Current Official Handicap Ratings of horses entered for the 2018 Velka Pardubicka

Twenty-eight horses are currently entered and qualified for the Velka Pardubicka, to be run at Pardubice on Sunday, October 14th. Two other Czech-trained horses, Hegnus and Eldorado, have qualified by finishing at least one of the four qualification races run at Pardubice in May, June, August and September, but have not yet been entered for the big race.

 

Legendary Gordon Lord Byron will run in Prague on EJC day

Irish trainer Tom Hogan says that it is all systems go for Gordon Lord Byron to run on EJC day at Prague Velká Chuchle on Saturday, September 22nd. The horse will fly out on the Friday and fly back after racing on Saturday evening.

It is understand that one of the owners, Dr Cyrus Poonawalla, has factories in the Czech Republic.  

Another VP qualification race for Ange Guardian

The last of the four Velka Pardubicka qualification races run at Pardubice racecourse produced a good-quality race. At last, there was a qualification race run on a cool afternoon and on good ground. The ploughed fields were a bit dusty, but we must again be grateful to the ground staff for their hard work on preparing the course.

There were ten runners, including two promising young horses, Buonarotti and Tzigane du Berlais, that had not yet qualified for the big race on October 14th.

A good day’s racing at Prague Velká Chuchle on Sunday

After an excessively long 10-week summer break, racing returns to Prague Velká Chuchle racecourse on Sunday, September 2nd. There are two feature races, each with attractive prize money of CzK 550 000 (EUR 20 000). The Martin Tour Travel Agency Prague Grand Prix, 1 600 metres brings together a good field of milers, several of which will be fancied. In the Czech St Leger, Blessed Kiss will be a hot favourite after her winning run in the Czech Derby in June, followed by a close second place winner in the Slovak Derby at Bratislava in July.

No Time To Lose wins the August VP qualification race

The third of the four qualification races for the 2018 Velka Pardubicka was run at Pardubice last Saturday - like the previous two qualification races, in hot, dry conditions. The racecourse was a strange sight. The racing line of the parts of the crosscountry races that are run on grass had been watered enough to be green.

Václav Janáček rides his 1 000th winner

Thirty-three-year-old Czech jockey Václav Janáček rode his 1 000th winner on Friday, August 10th, when he won the last race of the afternoon at the traditional three-day meeting on the beach at Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a resort in southern Spain. He is only the second Czech jockey ever to have reached a four-figure number of winners, and he reached this mark on a 6-y-o gelding, Mind the Gap. 

Meeting at Kolesa on Sat. 11 August postponed

The race meeting planned for Kolesa on Saturday 11 August has been cancelled because of the rock-hard ground. The organizers at Kolesa intend to discuss whether a replacement date can be found in the autumn, and will make an announcement in September. The organizers apologize to everyone who had taken an interest in the race meeting, and ask for their understanding.
