After winning a race at Pardubice on Saturday on Avec Charme, and then winning the main steeplechase at Netolice on Step Dancer on Sunday, Jan Kratochvíl took a bad fall, broke a thigh and was transported to hospital by helicopter.
The race meeting at Pardubice on August 22nd offered nine races, each with a good-sized field, on a mild late summer afternoon, on a remarkably well turned-out racecourse.
UK jockey Felix de Giles will ride for the first time in the Czech Republic on Saturday, August 22nd. He will ride three horses owned by DS Pegas and trained by Michal Lisek. He will be on the outsider Nana Angela, making her debut in the race for 3-y-o hurdlers. He will then ride Dorotka in the cross-country race for mares only.
This weekend there are two race meetings in the Czech Republic. The meeting at Pardubice on Saturday features the third Velka Pardubicka qualification race, over 5 800 metres.
For the eighth successive year, the Central European Thoroughbred Sale will be held at Pardubice racecourse two days before the Velka Pardubicka.
The sudden death was announced on August 7th of Luděk Mikulecký, owner of the BORS Břeclav stable. Since 2005, the stable has won 74 races, including the Slovak derby, with Rocky of Gracie. The stable’s Universe of Gracie won the May qualification race for this year’s Velká Pardubická. Luděk Mikulecký was a former member of the Council of the Jockey Club of the Czech Republic.

The first race at the mixed meeting at Lysá-nad-Labem on Saturday, August 8th will be at 4.30 p.m. There are eight races on the card.
