Congratulations to Petr Drahoš on his 60th birthday

Petr Drahoš has been the most important racecourse manager in the Czech Republic, and an extremely important figure in the management of Czech horseracing, in the period since the Changes in 1989.

In the early 1990s, he led the group under the name Dostihový Spolek, which took over the management of Pardubice racecourse in very uncertain times. Dostihový Spolek was a group of Pardubice sports fans - many of them more ice-hockey fans than racing people - who set about ensuring the future of their local racecourse and the famous Velka Pardubicka. Petr Drahoš was president of Dostihový Spolek, and was in effect also the racecourse manager, from 1994 until 2001.

In 2001, he sold his shares in Dostihový Spolek and bought shares in Prague Velká Chuchle racecourse, which was at that time under threat of being bought out by non-horseracing interests. He has headed TMM, the company that manages Prague Velká Chuchle racecourse and provides services for the Czech Jockey Club (which is based at Velká Chuchle racecourse) since the end of 2001. Since the beginning of 2002, Petr Drahoš has seen the racecourse through difficult times, including the catastrophic flood in 2002 and another major flood in 2013.

Petr Drahoš also set up and managed the Betino horseracing monopoly.

He was a very influential figure in Czech racing under long-time former Jockey Club of the Czech Republic president Václav Luka, snr. His relationship with the current leadership of the Jockey Club is less happy, and his experience and abilities are currently not being fully exploited by Czech horseracing.
